2kHz Beacon Detector

Description:

Designed and fabricated a robust infrared beacon detection module by transitioning a breadboard prototype into a durable perfboard implementation suitable for real-world deployment. The system incorporated voltage regulation and reverse-polarity protection to ensure stable operation across a wide input range, while a carefully tuned analog signal chain enabled reliable detection of a 2 kHz beacon at distances up to 6 ft and rejection of nearby interfering frequencies. Emphasis was placed on clean circuit layout, power distribution, and incremental hardware validation, allowing each stage—from filtering and amplification to threshold detection—to be systematically tested and optimized. The final design provided both a visual LED indicator and a digital output signal, enabling seamless integration with embedded systems for sensing and control applications.
